‘OPEN ART ON THE GREEN’ exhibition of local art – Friday 4th to Saturday 5th September
This the latest in a long-standing series of annual art shows featuring art works by local artists of all ages and all levels of experience. Everyone is welcome to submit up to two pieces of artwork, in any medium, on any subject. Every year this open exhibition showcases an wonderfully diverse range of imaginative and inspiring art works. This often includes works not just in mediums such oils, watercolours, acrylics, charcoal and much more – but also 3D works in glass, metal, wood, fabric, ceramics and even installations. This year the exhibition is also inviting screen based entries including animation, video, film and games. And there’s still plenty of time to get your artworks included. All you have to do is return an application form by the 28th August deadline. Anyone, of whatever level of artistic experience is welcome to take part.

Everyone is welcome to attend the art show preview, from 7.00pm on Friday 5th September. The preview is a very sociable occasion and marks the opening on the Big Little Arts Weekend. It’s a great opportunity to meet and get to know the artists who are exhibiting – and it’s a chance to be the first to snap up a unique piece of artwork.
The exhibition is open again from 9.00am to 1.00pm on Saturday the 5th Sept. This years there’s a special treat for parents with young kids. There will be a storytelling session in the smaller room of the Dunn Village Hall (fully chaperoned) to keep youngsters entertained while parents or guardians enjoy the exhibition.
BIG LITTLE GIG – music night – 5th September
For this year’s Big Little Gig the team have set out to provide a platform for as many talented local musicians as possible. The response from musicians has been enthusiastic and the Line-up now features more than a dozen groups, duos and soloists offering a range of genres including Rock, R&B, Soul, Folk, Americana and much more. It promises to be an epic night of dazzling performances by local musicians and songwriters. The full line-up will be published soon, and tickets for the Big Little Gig (very reasonably priced at just £10) will go on sale in early August. Watch this space.
IRISH DANCE DEMO – Sunday 6th September
The Little Arts group are very excited to be able to host a dance demonstration the Ace Academy or Irish Dance, led by dance director Porsche Langley. This lively and extraordinarily talented young dancers, of all ages, will be previewing a demanding display that they are currently preparing for a national competition later this year. Stand by to be utterly entrance by these sure footed and tireless masters of Irish Dance. Entry will be free, with a collection towards much needed equipment for the Ace Academy dancers.
POETRY DAY – Sunday 6th September
The team that put together last year’s incredibly impressive and well received poetry session are busy working an even more ambitious programme for this year’s weekend event.
Poetry Workshop – Sunday morning
On the Sunday morning there will be a Poetry Workshop run by local poet and writer Charlie Bell. Places will be limited, so it is advisable to book early. This session will begin as the Irish Dance Demo draws to a close. The Poetry Workshop will include a short walk in the local countryside as a source of inspiration, and will be based in the small room of the Dunn Village Hall (DVH2). Refreshments will be available.
Poetry Circle – Sunday afternoon
In the afternoon, there will be an ‘Open’ poetry reading circle where everyone is encouraged to read one or two pieces of their own work. As previously, this will be a very supportive setting in which writers of all levels of experience are warmly encouraged to join in.
